Love them or loathe them, here they are. Unlike the OOC rules, there are things in here that might not apply to every site, so be sure to read them else you'll only make a fool of yourself later on.
1. Literacy. Yes, this is a literate site. Meaning that your application needs approving before you can start roleplaying, and that I expect you to put some effort into your posts. I'm not saying you have to type novels every time, but using a spell checker is hardly difficult, and no one, regardless of how busy you all may be, has an excuse for only posting one or two lines. I'm not enforcing a posting length minimum, but if I see anything that clearly lacks effort I will ask you to improve/extend it.
Not sure you're up to it? Don't go away just yet! I and others will be happy to help you improve.
2. Characters. Firstly, how many? Simply put, as many as you can handle. If you can post every week with thirty-seven characters, that's awesome! If you're struggling with just one, don't make another. Secondly, what should they be? Anything! One of the key aspects of Ciel Noir is its freedom. You can roleplay as absolutely anything so long as it isn't perfect. Any species, any race, any time period. Realistic or fictional.
For more character information see the applications board.
3. Posting format. I've given this a lot of thought. It would be easy to say 'past tense, third person', and leave it at that. But really, I'd rather not impose restrictions on your creativity. If you are more comfortable posting in first person, or present tense, then I won't stop you. However, if you do plan to join a thread in a different person or tense to the creator, please ask them first just to check they don't mind. If you do want to place restrictions on the format of posts in your thread, it would be helpful if you said so either in the title or at the top of your first post.
4. OOC in IC posts. Sometimes, you need to ask a roleplayer something or point something out to them. Fair enough. Just use brackets or 'ooc:', say what needs to be said and move on. If you want to talk about their day or something, send them a pm or open a topic on the general chat board. Any more than three lines ooc is becoming excessive.
5. Activity. I've learned the hard way that activity checks don't work. Neither does emailing people and begging them to either return or at least tell me they've gone. So to save myself a lot of wasted time, I'll make it clear: If you've not logged in in three months and you haven't posted in the absences board to explain why, your account will be deleted and your characters either removed or put up for adoption. I expect people to post at least once every two weeks - that's not asking too much, is it?
6. Liquid Time Firstly, for those who don't recognise the term, liquid time refers to time across a site not being entirely rigid - a character may be in more than one place, doing more than one thing, at any time. Secondly, and more importantly, liquid time does not apply here. Because it can get really complicated if people overdo it, and you end up with causes coming after their effects and all sorts of mind destroying things. So let me clarify.
Your character will be in one place (ie.thread) at one time. Before you can move somewhere else you must leave your current thread, and make it clear you have done so. (eg. "ooc: Martin has left the area.") If you post in a second thread whilst still in a first your post will be deleted and you will be reminded.
Exceptions apply if a particular topic is moving very slowly, or someone you were roleplaying with has gone on holiday for a while. Or any other good excuse. Just pm me or Kaiyira and explain your situation, asking if you can temporarily use liquid time.
More rules may be added as I think of them.
